Hello Rangers and Community Scientists!
Here are the numbers so far: Dates considered March 1st 2021 to October 31st 2021

  • We have 102 members
  • with 8 butterflies in total
  • 6 Cabbage Whites
  • 2 margined Whites

For all of the observations in B.C. for the same period we are seeing the Mourning Cloak has the highest count out of 180 Observations.

Fun Fact: did you know the Mourning Cloak can ‘play dead’? As per Canadian Wildlife Federation:

another interesting characteristic of the Mourning Cloak is that when they are unable to fly away from a potential predator, as when they first emerge in the spring, these butterflies play dead!

Also – lucky person in Osoyoos who spotted a beautiful Two-Tailed Swallowtail!
